Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Classroom Management: Supervise whole classes across various subjects during the short-term absence of the assigned teacher, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
• Delivery of Pre-Set Work: Effectively deliver and explain lesson plans and work set by the absent teacher, following school policies and procedures to the letter.
• Behaviour Management: Manage student behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy, promoting respect and resolving low-level issues promptly and appropriately.
• Support & Guidance: Provide academic support and guidance to students as they complete tasks, answering questions and clarifying instructions without teaching new concepts.
• Administrative Tasks: Complete necessary administrative duties such as registering student attendance, collecting completed work, and providing brief feedback on the lesson for the returning teacher.
• Safeguarding: Maintain a vigilant awareness of student welfare, adhering strictly to the school's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
• Resource Management: Ensure classroom resources and equipment are used appropriately and left in good order at the end of the lesson.

Essential Requirements & Person Specification

To be successful in this Cover Supervisor role in Middlesbrough, you will need a specific blend of soft skills, resilience, and foundational knowledge. We are looking for candidates who can hit the ground running.

• Proven Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults in an educational, youth work, or supervisory capacity is essential. This could be as a Teaching Assistant, Tutor, Youth Worker, or in a similar supervisory role.
• Strong Classroom Presence: The innate ability to command respect, manage behaviour confidently, and maintain authority with groups of secondary school-aged students.
