Job Description: Forklift Driver / Operator
Temping Agency is actively recruiting experienced and safety-conscious Forklift Driver / Operator professionals for multiple immediate temporary placements within the bustling logistics and warehousing sector of Glasgow G1. Our clients range from major retail distribution centres to specialised manufacturing plants, all requiring skilled operatives to ensure the smooth, efficient, and safe movement of goods.
Applying through Temping Agency gives you direct access to a curated selection of roles that match your certification and experience. We handle the legwork with employers, negotiate on your behalf for the best possible pay rates, and provide a single point of contact for all your assignments. Whether you're seeking a last-minute placement to start tomorrow or a longer-term contract with a view to permanency, our dedicated Glasgow-based consultants are here to support your career move.
1 Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
- Safe Machinery Operation: Competently and safely operate counterbalance, reach, and/or pallet trucks to load, unload, move, stack, and retrieve goods and pallets within warehouse and yard environments, adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations (including LOLER and PUWER).
- Inventory & Stock Control: Accurately pick orders using handheld RF scanners, conduct regular stock checks, and maintain precise records of inventory movements. Assist in cycle counting and reconciling discrepancies, a skill that is also highly valued in our warehouse jobs in Edinburgh.
- Loading/Unloading Coordination: Work efficiently as part of a team or as a Traffic Marshal / Banksman to guide vehicle movements, ensuring safe loading and unloading of HGVs, containers, and vans. This includes checking vehicle restraints and load integrity.
- Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping: Perform daily pre-use checks (PUWER) on forklifts, report any defects immediately, and maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free work area. This proactive approach is crucial for safety, much like the protocols needed for power generation jobs in Manchester Airport.
- Communication & Teamwork: Liaise effectively with warehouse supervisors, colleagues, and transport staff to prioritise tasks, resolve issues, and ensure seamless logistics operations. Strong communication is as vital here as it is for a Hotel Receptionist in Croydon or a Virtual Assistant.
2 Essential Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this Forklift Driver / Operator role, you must meet the following core criteria:
- Valid, In-Date Forklift Licence (RTITB, NPORS, or ITSSAR): Counterbalance (B1) is essential; Reach Truck (B2) is a significant advantage.
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 6 months recent experience operating forklifts in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
- Safety-First Mindset: A demonstrable commitment to health and safety protocols. Knowledge of manual handling techniques is required.
- Physical Fitness & Reliability: Ability to handle the physical demands of the role and a reliable, punctual attitude with flexibility for various shift patterns (days, nights, weekends).

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I start after applying for this Forklift Driver role?
For candidates with all documentation ready (valid licence, right-to-work, references), we can often facilitate a start within 24-48 hours. The process involves a quick registration interview, either in our Glasgow office or via video call, and completion of essential compliance checks. We specialise in last-minute placements to meet urgent client demand.
What type of Forklift Licence do I need for jobs in Glasgow G1?
The majority of roles require a Counterbalance Forklift Licence (often referred to as B1), accredited by RTITB, NPORS, or ITSSAR. For roles in narrow-aisle warehouses, a Reach Truck Licence (B2) is highly desirable and can command a higher pay rate. Some positions may also require a Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) licence. Always ensure your certification is in-date and includes a practical assessment.
Are there opportunities to go permanent from a temporary forklift job?
Absolutely. A significant portion of our temporary Forklift Driver / Operator placements are made with a temp-to-perm view. Employers use temporary assignments as an extended working interview. Demonstrating reliability, a strong safety attitude, and a good work ethic greatly increases your chances of being offered a permanent contract. We actively promote suitable candidates for permanent positions, just as we do for roles like AV Tech jobs in Leeds.
What should I wear/bring on my first day as a temp forklift driver?
Safety is paramount. You must bring your own steel-toe cap safety boots (EN ISO 20345). Wear comfortable, durable work trousers and a high-visibility vest or jacket (many sites will provide this, but it's good to have your own). Bring your forklift licence card, photo ID for right-to-work, and a packed lunch/water bottle unless advised otherwise. Your consultant will provide a specific site induction brief before you start.
